Workplace Relaxation Techniques
It's not news that work causes stress: from work itself, co-worker stress, boss related stress, unhappy customers, and so on. It's easier said than done, but relaxation is a must. Excess stress causes headaches, ulcers, digestive problems, high blood pressure, and so many more health problems. Here are a few tips for minimizing stress and getting a bit of relaxation in:
- Take a break. Every hour, get up and walk around for a few minutes. Get some water, go to the restroom, take a walk down the hall, or whatever, but get up and move around.
- Breathe. If you feel like screaming, try taking a deep breath. Breathe in low from your stomach and out through your mouth.
- Squeeze. Keep a stress ball handy. Stress balls not only help to relieve stress, but they also strengthen your hands and arms.
- Relieve Muscle Tension. Try a few stretching exercises. Here's one technique that helps: Starting with either your fingers or toes, squeeze them together tightly for 5-10 seconds and then relax. Next, do the same to your arms or legs, and then throughout the rest of the body.
