1000 Places to See Before You Die
by Patricia Schultz
This book was given to me as a gift from my brother and sister-in-law as a Christmas present. At the time I appreciated the sentiment because they knew that I liked to travel and thought that this would be a great book for me. But all I could think of as I looked at it was "Ok...I guess I'll take a look at it...sometime." Why I thought that way was for several reasons. I know you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but people do, and I did. The cover did not look interesting at all. I understand the reasoning behind it---map of the world---but couldn't the cover have pictures from different parts of the world? More eye catching? And yes, using color is more expensive, but the pages of the book at a glance looked very boring. The pictures of the sites should have been in COLOR!!! Black and white pictures are great for some things, but this wasn't it. Color pictures would have made the sites more enticing: crystal blue waters of the caribbean, bright white buildings in Greece, bold colors of the hot air balloons in Albuquerque's Balloon Festival, etc.
