Pet Insurance
The pet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry that grows daily. Twenty years ago the idea of pet insurance was not taken seriously, but now every owner wonders if they need one.
Is pet insurance really necessary? Only you can answer that question. But know that pets can have all kinds of medical conditions such as diabetes, cancer, torn ligaments, heart conditions, asthma, etc. Basically, any conditions humans can get, pets can also have. The healthcare cost associated with taking care of your pets can be high, even to the point where you may not be able to afford its cost. Do you really want to be in that situation?
Here are several pet insurance companies.
Banfield Pet Hospitals have an Optimum Wellness Plan for dogs and cats that are seen in their hospitals. Banfield Pet Hospitals are located in the PetSmart stores. There is a one-time membership fee and monthly premiums that cover all the procedures in that plan. If there are procedures or medication recommended by the veterinarian that is not covered, then a 5-20% discount is given, based on your plan. There are no claims that need to be submitted and you can take your pet to any Banfield Pet Hospitals. For more information: www.banfield.net or 1-800-768-8858.
PetFirst Healthcare company was founded in July 2004. They offer different plans under their comprehensive or core coverage for cats and dogs. The comprehensive coverage includes accident, illness, and routine care while the core coverage only offers illness and accident protection. They do offer a family plan for two or more pets so your dogs and cats can all be covered under one plan. There is a deductible and monthly premiums for the plans with 90% reimbursement. For reimbursement a claim form has to be filled out and then submitted for review. PetFirst does not cover any pre-existing conditions and there is a 14-day waiting period for any illnesses.
